Austin Lafferty Solicitors
IT infrastructure upgrades and storage migration
With over 30 years of experience providing legal advice, Austin Lafferty is a well-established team of lawyers and solicitors in Scotland. The firm operates from offices in Giffnock and Newton Mearns in Glasgow, as well as Hamilton and East Kilbride in Lanarkshire.
Austin Lafferty approached Euro Systems for support with upgrading their ageing IT infrastructure. Two of their servers were outdated, with both the hardware and operating systems approaching obsolescence. This was impacting the speed, reliability, and overall performance of the firm’s daily operations.
To support future growth, enhance performance, and improve IT security, Euro Systems was engaged to manage the migration of servers and data to a more modern, scalable system.
With the aim to take a new approach to the client’s IT infrastructure, Euro Systems and Austin Lafferty had initial planning meetings to discuss the challenges and the requirements.
Euro Systems carried out a multi-site IT audit from which a full network diagram and proposal was produced. The team at Euro Systems advised the client on changes and upgrades required that best suited their business needs and objectives.
There were issues with Microsoft licensing which were a cause of problems for the firm. Euro Systems aimed to resolve this as part of the migration, moving the client to Office 365.
The priority for both the IT experts and the customer was to achieve a seamless migration that would result in secure, reliable, and efficient infrastructure.
Euro Systems migrated the client to a new Windows 2019 Hyper V host, running three Windows 2019 virtual servers. In conjunction with 3rd party Case Management Company, all data and programs were migrated to the new platform. The Host was also relocated and reconfigured to the East Kilbride office.
Migrating to a Hyper-V host proved the most suitable solution for Austin Lafferty to improve their virtual environment. Hyper-V enables virtualisation of network components and development of integrated network infrastructure. improving migration of virtual workloads to the cloud.
The new Hyper V host has server-based SSD drives, so this improved the speed, user experience and reliability.
The solution improved migration of virtual workloads to a cloud environment, simplified network management and enhanced server and network resource utilisation. Compatibility with emerging and existing network devices is also improved with the implementation of the Hyper-V host.
With its Microsoft Virtualisation solution, the company can operate more reliably and efficiently, while reducing server and network maintenance costs. Any Microsoft licensing issues were resolved along with the migration to the new Office 365 environment.
In order to also improve IT security for the firm, Euro Systems also implemented Multi-Factor authentication (MFA), also known as two-factor authentication. Enabling MFA (or 2FA) immediately increases security for the client, protecting the organisation against breaches due to lost or stolen credentials.
We take our IT network and security seriously, and Euro Systems were the perfect partner to advise us in this regard, showing us the best way forward and ensuring it was implemented in an expedient and cost effective manner.
